Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi has finally got a release date. The biopic on the life of Tamil Nadu’s actress-turned- politician, Jayalalithaa will hit the theatres on April 23, 2021. On Wednesday (February 24), on the birth anniversary of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the makers of Thalaivi announced the release date with a motion poster.

Kangana also took to her Twitter handle and shared the motion poster. She wrote, “To Jaya Amma, on her birthanniversary Witness the story of the legend, #Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April, 2021(sic)”.  Thalaivi will showcase the remarkable journey of Jayalalithaa from being the renowned actress of Tamil Nadu’s film industry to being a politician.

Kangana keeps on sharing her looks from her movie on her social media handles. She gained 20 kgs to play the titular role of Jayalalithaa. In November last year, she tweeted, “I played the first superhuman girl on Indian screen, thanks to my body, a rare combination of dainty yet strong looking. In my 30s, I had to gain 20 kgs for Thalaivi and do Bharatanatyam, it left my back severely damaged but no bigger gratification than to play a role to perfection.”

Thalaivi is a multilingual film releasing in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It is directed by AL Vijay and Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh are producing it. It also stars Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Madhoo and Bhagyashree.
