Yo Yo Honey Singh Assures Fans He’s Safe In Mexico

Taking to Instagram, Honey Singh shared a photo of himself beside a private jet and wrote, “Thnk u guys for all ur concern! M safe in mexico just flying back home #harharmahadev.” His update brought relief to fans who were worried after widespread reports of violence in several regions of Mexico.

What Sparked The Violence

The unrest began after Mexican security forces killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, and nicknamed El Mencho, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). El Mencho was one of the most wanted drug lords in the world, with both the United States Department of State and Mexican authorities offering large rewards, up to USD 15 million, for information leading to his capture due to his role in transnational drug trafficking and organised crime.

On February 22, 2026, Mexican forces launched a targeted military operation against El Mencho in Tapalpa, Jalisco, with support from U.S. intelligence. During the raid, Oseguera and several of his guards were critically wounded and later died while being transported for medical care. The operation involved intense combat as the cartel leader attempted to flee and security forces closed in.

Aftermath And Retaliation

El Mencho’s death triggered immediate and widespread violence across western and central Mexican states. Cartel members reportedly blocked highways, torched vehicles and businesses, and engaged in armed clashes with government forces. At least 25 members of Mexico’s National Guard and dozens of suspected cartel members were killed in the unrest, while multiple roadblocks disrupted travel and some airports temporarily suspended flights.

The violence also prompted safety advisories. The Embassy of India in Mexico issued an urgent advisory urging Indian nationals in affected regions, including Jalisco, Michoacán and Tamaulipas, to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and monitor local media for updates as the situation evolved.

Who Was El Mencho?

El Mencho, born in 1966 in Aguililla, Michoacán, rose from rural beginnings to lead CJNG, one of Mexico’s most powerful and violent organised crime groups. CJNG extended its influence across much of Mexico’s territory and into international drug trafficking networks, particularly supplying methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl to markets including the United States. Despite his fearsome reputation, El Mencho largely avoided public exposure, which made him a shadowy figure even as authorities pursued him for years.

Security analysts have warned that while his death represents a significant blow to CJNG’s leadership, it may also lead to internal power struggles within the cartel and further instability in regions where the group holds sway.
