Alia Bhatt’s ‘Raazi’ grows on word of mouth in India and overseas

Alia Bhatt‘s spy thriller ‘Raazi’ is drawing audiences in India and abroad. The movie, which minted Rs 32.94 crore (329.4 million) in India in its opening week, registered $2.03 million on foreign shores.

In India, the film released on May 11.

According to a statement from the makers of the Meghna Gulzar directorial, “the strong word of mouth benefited the film”. It registered Rs 7.53 crore on its opening day, followed by collections of Rs 11.30 crore and Rs. 14.11 crore on the subsequent days of the weekend.

Distributed internationally by Zee Studios International, ‘Raazi’ released in 450 screens across 42 countries, read a statement to IANS.

It released in the UAE on May 10 and all other regions on May 11.


The film minted $2.03 million, of which the business in North America was $869000, UAE/GCC was $574000, UK/Ireland was $210000, Australia and New Zealand was $144000, the statement read.(Also Read: Alia Bhatt’s ‘Raazi’ takes a good start at the box office)

Based on Harinder Sikka’s book “Calling Sehmat”, the story of the film ‘Raazi’ revolves around a young Kashmiri girl who gets married to a Pakistani Army officer and becomes a spy to give inside information about the neighbouring country to protect her own.

“Films are purely driven by content. This film highlights emotions, situations and passions so beautifully that one believes everything the actors are going through,” said Vibha Chopra, Head – Zee Studios International (Film Marketing, Distribution and Acquisition).

“Bringing this brilliance forward to maximum people is what we wanted to do. Raazi is a real story of a girl who has been through this, Experiences are something that should be told and the genius of our cinema should be spoken about globally,” Chopra added.

Produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma Productions, the film also stars Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Soni Razdan and Jaideep Ahlawat in pivotal roles.

Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza’s action thriller ‘Race 3’ starring superstar Salman Khan has successfully completed eight days at the box office. The Eid bonanza of Salman is making the most of the fact that this Friday no other film was released. ‘Race 3’ is expected to have a smooth run at the box office and earn few more crore until Ranbir Kapoor‘s ‘Sanju’ hits the theatre on June 29.

The film that had minted around 132.50 crores nett until two days back, has now added few more crores to its collection on the eighth day. According to a report in trade magazine Box office India, the film’s total collection so far is 142.50 crore nett. It is being reported that the film’s collection dropped around 40%.


However, ‘Race 3’ has already recovered its budget, as the satellite rights of the film had been sold for a whopping 130 crore, a price which is way more than the film’sbudget. The makers of this action thriller are already rejoicing the fact that their film earned 100 crores in just 3 days. Happy with the success of this third installation of the hit ‘Race’ franchise, the makers are already planning for the fourth part which will once again feature Salman Khan in the lead role.

Also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Saqib Saleem and Daisy Shah in pivotal roles, the film had hit the silver screens on June 15.

This Remo D’Souza’s directorial though received a mixed response from the critics, the audience, however, seems to have loved this action-thriller starring their all-time favourite Bhaijaan Salman. According to a report in Box Office India, ‘Race 3’ has minted around 132.50 crores nett.

Keeping up with the tradition of treating his audience with his films on Eid, Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’ that also featured Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah and Saqib Saleem hit the silver screens on June 15 last week.

Looking at the success of the film at the box office, reportedly the makers of the film are planning to make the fourth installment of the film which will once again feature our very own Salman Khan.

The actor has already kick-started his Da-Bangg tour with Daisy Shah, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonakshi Sinha and Katrina Kaif. After the Da-Bangg tour, the actor will begin shooting for ‘Bharat’ which also features Priyanka Chopra and Disha Patani in lead roles.
