Did you know Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone & Siddharth Anand almost worked together before Pathaan?

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone will soon be seen in the much-anticipated project Pathaan. The Siddharth Anand directorial is gearing for its theatrical release on January 25. This is the first time that the Badshah is collaborating with the War director. But did you know Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone & Siddharth Anand had almost worked together much before Pathaan?

Sajid Nadiadwala acquired the rights to Chatan Bhagat’s novel, 2 States in Mid-2010. He planned to make it an evergreen love story and roped in Siddharth Anand to direct the movie. Sid was at the moment busy with Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani for Sajid Nadiadwala.

The duo felt Shah Rukh Khan was the perfect choice to play the romantic hero. They held multiple meetings with the superstar who gave his nod for the film. Siddharth Anand and Sajid Nadiadwala next went to Deepika Padukone and she too instantly agreed to come on board. King Khan was to play the quintessential guy from a Punjabi family, and DP was to portray the character from a South Indian backdrop. So what went wrong?

Well, everything was going fine till Anjana Anjani hit the theatres and was a box-office failure. This failure led to the script of 2 States being written and rewritten a number of times. Finally, Siddharth and Sajid decided to part ways on the subject and the producer began the hunt for another director. Later, Sajid found a partner in Karan Johar and roped in Abhishek Verma to direct the movie.

However, Shah Rukh Khan had okayed Chennai Express, with Deepika Padukone and the duo backed out of the project amicably. The makers next roped in Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt for the film.

A decade after the failed attempt of making 2 States, Siddharth Anand, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have come together for the much-awaited 2023 release Pathaan.
