While content-driven films are being loved and preferred by the audiences, a commercial masala entertainer like ‘Golmaal’ too rakes in the moolah. And the man behind the popular franchise ‘Golmaal’, Rohit Shetty is back in the grind with ‘Golmaal Again’. So, as the movie is up for release this Diwali, the filmmaker was quizzed about what went behind creating the movie which is a horror comedy, unlike its predecessor.

Said Rohit, “This was the most difficult ‘Golmaal’ for us to write. It took two and a half years to write the final draft. Then, we had new characters coming in and making it grander. Bigger and grander because seven years ago we came with a brand and then if you make the same thing again, it will work but it won’t be honest, it won’t be right on our part to just cash in on the title or the characters. So actually, not only the scripting part, the technical aspect also. The whole year went in planning, we shot the film in five months, but the planning went for a year.” (Also Read: Ajay Devgn reacts on ‘Golmaal Again’ facing competition from ‘Secret Superstar’)

While one knows the movie is going to earn big bucks at the ticket windows, the makers opened advance ticket bookings almost four weeks before its release date (which is uncommon for any movie). So, when he was asked about the strategy for the same, he replied, “Nothing. We had a deal with Paytm and the exhibitors said that there is a lot of inquiry coming and we thought ‘Chalo shuru karte hai kisine kiya nahi hai’ (Let’s start nobody has done this before). Suddenly, the booking started coming, so we were like ‘Okay’. Day before yesterday, they opened in Pakistan which never happens and I don’t know why Pakistan has done that. They started the advance booking yesterday and today the UAE guy opened the advance booking and usually they open seven days in advance for any big film. I also don’t know what’s working but this is what is happening at present.”

‘Golmaal Again’ which stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade is up for release on Oct 20, 2017.
