The makers announced the news on social media, sharing their excitement along with the film’s official poster. They wrote, “Presenting Gudgudi. Our yet another special film that has found its way to Cannes… and we honestly couldn’t be more grateful to share this moment with all of you. Gudgudi will premiere at Cannes between May 12 and May 23, 2026, as part of the Marché du Film segment. Marché du Film, also called Cannes Film Market, is an annual marketplace for films and one of the world’s largest film markets.

This platform plays a crucial role in the global film ecosystem, as it brings together filmmakers, producers, distributors, and buyers from across the world. As a result, it offers films like Gudgudi not just visibility but also opportunities for international collaborations and distribution.

Uorfi Javed On Cannes

At the same time, conversations around Cannes have recently expanded beyond just artistic recognition. Uorfi Javed recently revealed that attending the festival can come with significant financial demands. She claimed that Cannes organisers asked her to pay nearly ₹80 lakh to be part of the experience, shedding light on its commercial side. Her statement has sparked debate online, with many discussing the accessibility and cost barriers associated with such global platforms.

Despite these discussions, Gudgudi’s selection remains a noteworthy achievement. Backed by producer Mukesh Chhabra and White Peacock Films, the film reflects how Indian stories continue to travel beyond borders. The Cannes platform, known for hosting top-tier global cinema and industry networking, provides a valuable stage for emerging and established voices alike.

With its Cannes selection, Gudgudi joins a growing list of Indian projects gaining international attention. While debates around the cost of participation continue, the film’s presence at the Marché du Film underscores a larger shift—Indian cinema is expanding its global footprint. As the festival approaches, all eyes will be on how Gudgudi leverages this opportunity to connect with wider audiences and industry stakeholders.
