Comedian Samay Raina has returned with the second season of ‘India’s Got Latent’, with the first episode featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as celebrity guests. While the show’s comeback has generated excitement, an old clip from one of its 2024 episodes has resurfaced online, triggering fresh criticism. The viral video has once again sparked conversations around misogyny, consent and the kind of humour being normalised, especially after the recent Rs 370 biryani controversy that dominated social media earlier this month.
Samay Raina Faces Backlash After Old Video With Misogynistic Remarks Resurfaces
In the resurfaced clip, a woman attending the show with her boyfriend suddenly gets up and leaves midway. Curious, Samay asks what happened. The man responds that she had to rush home because her father had suffered a minor heart attack. Surprised by the boyfriend’s calm reaction, Samay questions why he wasn’t accompanying her to check on the situation.
samay raina getting exposed as a misogynist,I prayed for a day like this. Drag him. There are a lot of misogynist comedians but he has become an elite part of them, lots of popular well known celebs acknowledge him,got netflix show just another kapil sharma. https://t.co/Yh8N8uHEub

He then jokes, “Abhi jaake rota na jaake, bhai kandha dega tabhi woh head degi (Go cry for her. Give her your shoulder, and she will give you head),” drawing laughter from the audience. The clip has now gone viral, with several social media users criticising the remark. One X user wrote, “Kandha dega tabhi toh head degi”— Samay Raina to a guy in the audience when his girlfriend leaves crying as her dad has a minor heart attack.
Netizens REACT
A comment read, “No better than ‘370 rupai diye hain biryani ke liye vasoolunga toh sahi’ Yes, comedy is not the biggest problem in our country, but such casual f*ck boy, locker room language has become mainstream and also contributes to crimes and violence against women. Men get away with this kind of language/crimes because other men participate and applaud when women are spoken about like that. So don’t @ me with your gyaan.” Another user commented, “Entitlement isn’t measured by what u gave…Whether it’s a dinner bill or a shoulder to cry on, neither earns u someone’s body. Nowadays, people use comedy as a laundromat for rotten ideas…Sigh.”
A third wrote, “Samay lovers are misogynists, it doesn’t matter anymore whether it’s men or women, they’re all misogynists, I hope they face the misogyny they make fun of, I don’t feel sorry for you.” Another post read, “I feel pathetic for defending this guy when the entire drama happened. he doesn’t deserve a platform at all, let alone a platform that you have to pay for to watch this crap. could’ve easily called out his behaviour, but he turned it into a joke for a few giggles.”
About Rs 370 Biryani Joke
For those unaware, the Rs 370 biryani controversy erupted after a clip from comedian Pranit More’s show went viral. During the show, 23-year-old Himanshu Jangra claimed that he had spent Rs 370 on chicken biryani during a date. And he deserved a “return” on that investment. The remark received widespread backlash, following which Himanshu apologised and deactivated his social media accounts. Pranit More also issued a public apology, clarifying that the audience member’s statement did not represent his personal views. He said, “Comments made by the audience member do not reflect my views”.
