Shaakuntalam Box Office: Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s film has a dull opening weekend, earns less than Rs 7 crores

Even though Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan delivered great performances in Shaakuntalam, looks like it’s not been enough to impress the audiences. Sadly, the film hasn’t been doing great at the box office, with its opening weekend collection closing at less than 10 per cent of its budget. Samantha starrer’s national Box Office report…

Samantha’s mythological drama had a slow start at the box office, on its day one, the film earned Rs 3 crores. On the second day too, the film managed to earn a little less than Rs 2 crores. Now with the opening weekend past us, the film’s exact collection stands at Rs 6.85 crores reportedly.

Shaakuntalam’s budget and overseas collection…

Well, Shaakunatlam has been made on a budget of Rs 70 crores. It is based on the popular play by Kalidasa called Abhignyana Shakuntalam. And it is not just at the national level, but overseas too the film doesn’t seem to have made a very strong mark. Shaakuntalam’s overseas collection stands at Rs 8.70 crores reportedly.

With trade predictions pointing at a lifetime collection of a little more than Rs 15 crores for the film, it will be sad to see a beautiful story like Shaakuntalam meet this fate. Written and directed by Gunasekhar, and produced by Neelima Guna, the film brings to us the iconic love story between King Dushyant and his wife Shakuntala.

The film has been released in multiple languages. Even though, the Dev Mohan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer had a decent occupancy in Telugu, the occupancy in Hindi has been average.
