Aamir Ali, Rajeev Khandelwal, Ravi Behl Weigh In On Actors Being Typecast In Bollywood

Mixing the intensity of a legal drama with the fast-paced energy of a crime thriller, Amar Vishwas follows an unconventional Mumbai lawyer who champions the powerless. Starring a dynamic trio, Ravi Behl, Rajeev Khandelwal, and Aamir Ali, the show aims to deliver suspense and excitement straight to viewers’ living rooms. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, the cast shared their thoughts on typecasting in the industry, drawing from over 30 years of collective experience. Scroll down to read what they said.

‘Amar Vishwas’ Cast Opens Up About Being Typecast In Certain Roles

When asked about getting boxed into specific roles and being typecast in the industry, Aamir Ali said, “Yaar hota hai na typecast ho, log bolte hain typecast ho jaa raha hai. I feel typecast ho toh jao pehle. That’s also very important. Because when you do something, you are good at it. That’s why people like you. After doing that for years, you yourself feel ki kuch alag karna hai. That’s when you try to do something different. And I think that’s how all of us are just searching for that interesting thing that excites us.”

Reflecting his views on typecasting from his lived experience, Rajeev Khandelwal said, “Yaar typecast ho jaate ho aap. Definitely industry daal deti hai, aapko box kar deti hai. But then there are times, like I did a show called Show Time. Toh jab mere paas mein woh character aaya, toh maine kaha, ‘Kisne mere baare mein socha, boss? This is like so different from whatever I have been doing.’ Suddenly, somebody wants me to play a flamboyant, superstar, and all of that stuff. So I was very happy that somebody could really think ki isse karvaayenge yeh kaam. So my first question to the directors was, ‘Why me? Because you have the option of picking up anybody. But why me?’ They said, ‘The fun of casting you would be that you see Rajeev play a very flamboyant and over-the-top superstar. Baaki joh obvious hai woh toh dekh hi lenge, toh usmein itna maza nahi aayega.’ And that’s when I realised, actually, audience ke liye bhi kitna fun rehta hoga.”

Adding more to it, he said, ” For example, jab isne (Aamir Ali) apna pehla comedy show kiya tha, to see this lover boy and this chocolate boy do something as crazy as that. Matlab woh, I think, it’s always nicer for the audience as well, to surprise them. Audience dekhne mein maza aata hai na. So I never expected anything from Show Time because mujhe laga tha, ‘Yaar yeh toh bahut hi loud hai. So you do get typecast, but then some people see beyond that thing, and they could see that fun element that would be associated with someone like me playing a character which is not expected of me.”

Ravi Behl Reflects His Views On Typecasting In The Industry

Answering about typecasting in the industry, Ravi Behl said, “I just feel ki typecast tab hota hai jab aapka daayra bahut chhota ho. You take an actor like Mr Bachchan. He is the best we have. He was always known as the Angry Young Man. But are you trying to tell me he didn’t excel in comedy? Did he not excel in emotions, action, or everything? Singing, dancing, you name it. Toh aapko apna product joh hai, table pe rakhna padega. Aahista-aahista aapko audience ko dikhana padega ki, ‘Bhai, I am capable of this, I am capable of this, and I am capable of this.’ Toh daayra phir hat jaata hai. But you have to be capable.”

The veteran actor concluded, “He has done something. Today, he is doing something else. Tomorrow he is doing something else. So it all depends on how much flavour you have inside of you.”
