Anjana Sukhani On Auditioning For Salaam-E-Ishq
When asked how auditions were back then vs now, Anjana Sukhani shared, “For commercials and advertisements, yes, uss time aapko auditions dene padte the. But yes, for Salaam-e-Ishq, I had to audition. So I had to audition for the scenes, for the dance, for the look—everything. But uske baad toh audition ki kabhi zarurat hi nahi padi. Abh in the last five, seven, eight years, I feel it has picked up again. Now, you know, directors want to see you perform.”
She added, “Chahe aapne kaam kiya ho ya nahi kiya ho, purely because they want to see whether they can fit you into the mould they have created. So I think there is nothing wrong with it. Actually, I think auditions are like doing a workshop again and again for actors. You know, can you play this emotion, can you play that emotion? I think it’s absolutely worth doing auditions. I’m totally cool with auditioning all the time.”
Anjana On Working With Anil & Priyanka
Speaking about working with Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in Salaam-E-Ishq, the actress said, “Listen, I mean, I was working with Anil sir. I mean, yeah, of course—Anil sir. I mean, what do I even say, really? He is a legend. You know, they have proved themselves, and every single film they do, every time they come on screen, you’re like, ‘Oh my God!’ But at that time, of course, you get a bit intimidated. ‘Yaar, Anil Kapoor ke saath kaam karna hai. Anil Kapoor ke saath dance karna hai. Kaise hoga?’ But I remember very clearly, when I was shooting for the Babuji Dheere Chalna song in Salaam-e-Ishq.”
She concluded, “One day before that, we were shooting something with Priyanka, and I was just telling her. I said, ‘Listen, I’m very scared, yaar. I don’t know, I mean, to dance with Anil sir, it’s a very beautiful, hot song. What am I going to do?’ And she said, ‘Don’t worry, you’re going to be fine.’ I said, ‘I don’t know, yaar.’ She said, ‘You know what? I’ll come for some time.’ And she came the next day. I think she stayed for a couple of hours just to give me a little strength—that, ‘You can do it.’ And I will never forget that about her because she didn’t have to do that. She’s a big star, but she made that effort. And I think I salute that girl for everything. So I have such beautiful memories of the set as well.”
