EXCLUSIVE: Bismil Backs Demand On Concert Safety, Urges Better Management In India; Says, “Abhi Acchi Security Ke Saath Show Karte Hain”

Bismil has voiced strong support for the ongoing conversation around concert safety, sharing his own experiences from live shows to underline why better facilities and tighter security matter. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, he recalled poorly maintained washrooms and earlier shows with inadequate security, stressing that audiences deserve a smooth, comfortable, and memorable experience from entry to exit. When asked about the ongoing debate on concert safety, Bismil said, “Bilkul, 100%. Matlab main isse bilkul agree karta hoon. Kyunki hamare shows mein bhi aisa hua hai. Main khud ek baar washroom gaya tha aur mujhe laga, ‘Yeh kya hai? Log ismein kaise aayenge?’ Kyunki uski haalat itni kharab thi. Aur agar security ki baat karein, pehle kuch shows mein security thodi kam hoti thi. Lekin ab achhi security aur achhi management ke saath hum log shows karte hain.”

He added, “So that log easily enter karein, bahar aayein, unhe clean washrooms milein aur unka overall experience achha ho. Logon ko experience mil raha hai. Aap gaa rahe ho, aap unko music suna rahe ho, which is okay. Sab log kar rahe hain. But aap unhe kya experience de rahe ho ki, ‘Yaar, phir se wahaan jayenge,’ kyunki sab kuch itna convenient tha, you know. Toh ab us par kaam chal raha hai. Hona chahiye. I think hona chahiye. 100% hona chahiye.”

Speaking of, if he ever attended a concert and experienced any memorable fan interaction, Bismil said, “Haan haan, bilkul hua hai na aisa. Asal mein abhi main Manchester mein tha, toh maine wahan par The Weeknd suna tha. The Weeknd ek artist hai, number one on Spotify. He is too good. Toh wahan par ek-do log mujhe bole, ‘Are yaar, aap bhi yahan?’ Maine kaha, ‘Haan yaar, aaj main sunne aaya hoon.'”

Music concert safety in India faces significant challenges due to the rapid growth of the industry, outpacing existing venue infrastructure and regulatory oversight. Major risks include fatal substance abuse, with high-energy events like techno, EDM, and hip-hop frequently marred by excessive alcohol consumption and illegal drug use such as ecstasy/MDMA, leading to tragic fatalities and increased police scrutiny.

Organisers have been booked for negligence or had their licenses revoked due to inadequate drug deterrence and delayed medical responses. Unlike mature global markets with dedicated venues, most Indian concerts are held on temporary sites like sports grounds or open exhibition spaces, resulting in logistical disasters such as overcrowding, severe bottlenecks, and evacuation risks from poor barricading and blocked exits—prompting authorities to deny permits for poorly planned events.

Even at high-profile stadium shows, attendees face hazards like overloaded cellular networks, preventing contact with emergency services, and non-functional or overflowing washrooms that cause dehydration and infections. Additionally, the swelling crowds have led to increased theft and sexual harassment incidents, especially affecting gender-nonconforming and disabled attendees who often encounter improper frisking or inaccessible facilities.

In response, authorities and organisers are deploying dedicated anti-harassment and anti-theft squads to improve safety. Artists and performers are also increasingly vulnerable, with fans rushing barricades or forcibly grabbing them on stage, prompting promoters to enhance barricade security and employ stricter on-stage security measures.
