EXCLUSIVE: Deepshikha Nagpal Recalls Harsh Judgement On Shooting Bindya Rani Scene With Amrish Puri In Koyla; Says, “I’m Not Ashamed”

Deepshikha Nagpal is an actress and film director who mainly works in Hindi films and TV productions. She has starred in films LIKE Koyla, Baadshah, Dillagi and Partner. She participated as a contestant in Colours TV’s reality show Bigg Boss Season 8 in 2014. During an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Deepshikha Nagpal recalled judgment for her Bindya Rani scene with Amrish Puri in Koyla.

Deepshikha Nagpal On Shooting Bindya Rani Scene With Amrish Puri

When shown a picture of the actress with Amrish Puri in Koyla, Deepshikha Nagpal said, “This was the Bindya Rani scene with Amrish Puri. That character itself was like that—she had to work with Amrish Puri. Bandiya Rani—nowadays, people often make such scenes sleazy, asking actresses to remove their clothes and all. But this character wasn’t like that. She had no choice, she had to work for a boss who did nothing, and that’s why she ended up loving Shah Rukh’s character. So, in the scene, when she’s in need, she goes to Shah Rukh. And what lighting!”

She added, “Sameer Arya had done fantastic lighting. Now, coming to my scene—specifically, the one where I had to remove clothes. Rakesh ji (Rakesh Roshan) asked me, ‘Deepshikha, this is the kind of scene we need to do. How should we go about it?’ And that’s why I always say—I’ve come from a place where people like Rakesh Roshan, even when I was a newcomer, discussed every scene with respect. My mom was on set. We all sat and decided together how to execute it. I told him, ‘No problem, Rakesh ji. How do you want to shoot it?’ He said, ‘We’ll shoot from the front.’ I was wearing a tube top, and I said, ‘I’ll keep my hand like this…’ So in the scene, the character is walking toward the camera, her hand covering her chest, suggesting modesty.”

Deepshikha On She Was Criticised For The Scene

Deepshikha said, “From the back, I was wearing a swimming costume, and I had my hand placed just so. It was shot in a way that suggested frontal nudity without showing anything. From the back, it was choreographed beautifully. At the end, I drop the dress—technically, I’m still wearing something, but we used fabric to create the effect of the dress falling to the floor. Rakesh ji said, ‘You know what?’ I said, ‘No, no—we’ll do it this way.’ My mom was watching it all—yes, we did it, but on screen, the impact was Oh my God! And then people judged me: ‘Oh my God, she removed her clothes!'”

Concluding, she said, “She did this!”She did that!”People won’t respect you anymore…’ But look at today—even heroine, every second actress, are doing lovemaking scenes. So what did I even do back then? I was glamorous—I had good legs, a little cleavage was showing—so what was wrong with that? And now look—now tell me! Isn’t it the trend? I had to do that back then, but I’m not ashamed. I’m very proud of my work.”
