Jackie Shroff The Great Grand Superhero Violence Marvel DC

Veteran actor Jackie Shroff is all set to appear in his upcoming film, The Great Grand Superhero: Aliens Ka Aagman, a sci-fi family fantasy directed by Manish Saini. The film explores a heartfelt grandfather-grandson relationship shaped by imagination and belief, and is scheduled for release on 29 May 2026. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Jackie Shroff opened up about why Bollywood has not seen many superhero films in recent years and what makes the genre unique today. Scroll on to know what the actor had to share.

Jackie Shroff REACTS To Why Bollywood Lacks Superhero Films

When asked about the absence of superhero films in Bollywood over the years, Jackie Shroff pointed towards the lack of such creative thinking in the industry. “Shayad aise log kam (points towards director Manish Saini), hai joh sochte hain aisa. Par last kaunsi thi actually dekha jaaye toh… I don’t know, I mean last… I remember like do ya Raavan… Raavan nahi last jo last thi, barabar bola, bahut saal ho gaye.”

Director Manish Saini then expanded on how the gap in the genre has existed for years and how the perception of superheroes in India has evolved over time. He said, “Main yahi bol raha tha ki wo kami jaise aapne bola na wo dikhti thi hamesha ki aisi films kyun nahi aa rahi hai aur ek aisa combination kyun nahi aa raha hai. Kyunki dekhiye superhero film banana… superhero film yahan nahi toh bahar ban rahi hai aur ab kya ho gaya wo barrier khatam ho gaya OTT pe ya Hollywood release hote rehte hain, toh har saal bahar se toh films aati rehti hai.”

Manish Saini Reflects On Marvel-DC Violence

The National award-winning director added, “Humare idhar nahi banti thi toh hamesha yeh lagta tha ki humara superhero kaisa hoga. Hum theek hai, humare young handsome superhero rahe hain, Tiger sir rahe hain, Shah Rukh sir rahe hain, theek hai. Lekin ek aisa superhero jisko dekh ke jisko batana pade ki arre main hoon superhero, yakeen karo (laughs) aur bachche bolte hain proof do.”

When it was pointed out that Hollywood superhero films from Marvel and DC often contain violence, even when targeted at younger audiences, and asked whether their film intentionally avoided that tone, director Manish Saini explained the creative intent behind keeping the story more innocent and family-oriented. “Yes, wo kyunki yahi hai, aap bachchon ki film hai, bachchon ke baare mein film hai, bachpan ki film hai. Toh aap violence kya hai na, violence ka itna humne level dekh chuke hain na hum toh matlab wo toh alag hi genre hai.”

Jackie Shroff also added his perspective, comparing it with animated classics that normalise exaggerated action. He said, “Khair woh toh hum log wahan dekh chuke hain na apna. Tom and Jerry ki kahani mein, Tom and Jerry usko chapta karte, usko kaat dete, usko jala dete aur hum log hans rahe hai, jab usse zyada violent kya ho sakta hai.”
