Pulkit Samrat And Varun Sharma On Comedy Not Being A Serious Genre
Talking about the belief that comedy is a difficult genre and often underestimated, Pulkit Samrat shared his perspective and said, “I think a little differently, mere hisaab se har genre difficult hota hai, har film banana utna hi difficult hota hai, usme utne hi challenges hote hai, yes the number of challenges could be increasing or decreasing depending on the scale of your cast or the film and story. But otherwise, mota mota har cheez mein utni hi mehnat lagti hai.”
The Actor further added, “Aapko utna hi besharam hoke inhibitions phek kar camera ke saamne aana hota hai, aapko agar rona hai toh aapko feel karke rona hai, aapko hasna hai toh aapko feel karke hasna hai. So you just have to be convincingly doing your things in whatever kind of situations, but yes logo ko dekh ke aisa lagta hai ki ‘haa comedy comedy toh easy hai, ki aate hai aur sirf hasa dete hai.’ It is important for everyone to understand ki nahi har kaam mein utni hi mehnat lagti hai.”
Varun Sharma Says, “It Is Very Difficult To Make Someone Laugh”
Echoing similar sentiments, Varun Sharma highlighted that comedy is often misunderstood because of its light-hearted nature. Adding to Pulkit’s thoughts, Varun said, “Bilkul, mujhe bhi wahi lagta hai ki comedy serious business hai, mushkil hota hai kisi ko hasana, and I think jis nazariye se aap us genre ko dekhte hai, obviously kai baari bohot ‘light way’ mein chale jaata hai kyuki wo genre aapko lagta hai light hai toh aap usko lightly le lete ho. But aisa nahi hai. I think again, jitna mushkil comedy hai, it’s tough to make someone laugh, I think probably kisi ko darana zyada asaan hoga, hasane se zyada. And it is a collective effort of a lot of people, an individual can not do comedy alone. It is about the reaction and the setup and the writing, and a whole lot of people coming together and making that one particular joke land.”
Reflecting on their journey and the joy of spreading laughter, Varun further added, “So it is a tough genre, and we are blessed that we have been a part of some great films, which have done exceptionally well in comedy. And we really hope we get to make people laugh and smile more, because humne asal zindagi mein ek dusre ko hasana band kar diya hai toh humne kaha hum apne cinema ke zariye kar le.”
As actors who have repeatedly delivered memorable comic performances, Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma continue to challenge the notion that comedy is easy. Their words serve as a reminder that behind every laugh lies discipline, teamwork, and a deep understanding of human emotions—making comedy not just entertainment, but serious business indeed.
