There is a particular kind of role that does not just add a credit to a filmography, but redefines one. Heer, in the context of Indian storytelling, is exactly that. One of the most enduring and emotionally loaded female characters ever produced, she has been interpreted across decades, across languages, across mediums. And every actress who has played her has carried the weight of that legacy into the frame.
So, when Imtiaz Ali’s production house began developing their own version of Heer Ranjha, with Sajid Ali set to direct and Rohit Saraf locked in as Ranjha, the question of who would play Heer mattered. And for a significant period of time, that answer was Riccha Sinha. However, she’s no longer in the running now. A source close to the development spoke to Bollywood Bubble and confirmed that she’s no longer part of the ambitious project.
Riccha Sinha No Longer In The Running For Imtiaz Ali’s Heer Ranjha
As per our source, Riccha Sinha was in advanced talks to star in Heer Ranjha, with auditions done and screen tests cleared. By all accounts, everything was moving in the right direction; and then it wasn’t. The project, for reasons that remain unclear, did not come together for her. A source close to the development tells us, “Everything was in place. Riccha had done everything that was asked of her and the team was genuinely excited about what she brought to the role. What happened after was just one of those things that is beyond anyone’s control.”
But for Riccha, this did not become a setback. It’s made space on her roster for a couple of other interesting projects she rumoured to have signed on for. Trajectories like hers do not pivot. They accumulate quietly, deliberately, entirely on her own terms.
