Singer king reveals his vision for bollywood hip hop culture

Indian hip hop is undergoing a major shift, and singer King believes it’s time for the genre to evolve beyond its familiar themes. Reflecting on the current narrative of struggle and street life, he emphasises that constantly repeating the same stories limits both artists and audiences. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, King argues that growth, creative, personal, and financial, is essential for the culture to progress. For him, becoming successful isn’t just a personal milestone but a way to inspire listeners to rise with him. Scroll down to read what he said and watch the full interview.

King Hopes For Hip Hop Music To Uplift The Community

When asked about the evolving hip hop culture in India, singer King said, “Main nahin chahta ki woh gareebon-wala hi rap chalta rahe. Haan, agar main 5 saal aur sununga, toh phir mujhe lagega ki yaar, hum bade hi nahi hue. Ki pichhle 5 saal se bhi hum gareebi ki baat kar rahe the as a rapper — ki hum galliyon se aaye hain, hum yeh-woh… aur 5 saal baad bhi wahi baatein kar rahe hain.”

He added, “Toh humein sunne wale bhi galliyon mein hi reh gaye. Toh aisi relatability mujhe nahi chahiye. If I’m becoming someone, I have to become a millionaire, so that jo log mujhe sunte-dekhte hain, woh khud bhi kuch banein. Taaki main ek society ko utha sakun, aur yeh sirf “scene” banke na reh jaaye — ek community ban sake. Right? Mera aisa hi sochna hai.”

Bollywood Hip-Hop Culture

Bollywood has a complex and evolving relationship with Indian hip-hop culture, acting both as a major promoter and a source of tension for independent, underground artists who strive for authenticity. The industry’s engagement, particularly through films like Gully Boy, has propelled “desi hip-hop” into the mainstream consciousness of India.
