Undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of 2026, Yash-led Toxic – A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups released on Wednesday, August 26 to mixed reviews. While some praised the gangster drama, others slammed the movie and even went as far as demanding a refund for their tickets. While the film is currently seeing a decline in its daily footfalls, a lot of negativity surrounded it even before its release.
During an exclusive telephonic conversation with Akshay Oberoi – who essays the role of Tony in the film, we asked the actor his views on the negativity, that many fans terms ‘negative paid PR’. Read on to know his answer.
Akshay Oberoi On Negative PR Before The Release Of Toxic
When quizzed about the negative PR that surrounded Toxic prior to its release and if it effected him, Akshay Oberoi said, “Oh, these things don’t bother me. I’ve been working long enough to see through this. I’ve learned that eventually the truth catches up. Everyone gets to know. Doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani ho jaata hai.”
He continued, “And my career also has shaped me in certain ways. The way I think is because of all the struggle I’ve been through to get to where I am today. I don’t focus on any of this nonsense. I find it like, that’s okay. That’s cool. I mean, that’s the job of a film. When a film is so anticipated, people will be talking about it left, right, and center, and they have a right to talk whatever they want. Today, there’s social media. People can comment however they’d like. And that’s for them. That’s what we’re making it for them.”
He further added, “But I know that once the film landed at the theater this conversation will end. So it didn’t bother me. I didn’t even waste my energy or time on it. And I’m sure even Boss (Yash), Geetu and the entire marketing team… I don’t think anyone really gave it much attention because they were like, let the film come, the film will speak.”
He concluded by added, “So that’s generally the vibe I got from them. That’s what I was feeling inside as well. So yeah, really no big deal there. That’s part of the business. It’s part of the business.”
