Yash’s Toxic is approaching the end of its theatrical run after a significant box office failure. The gangster drama, with an estimated Rs 500 crore budget, had a strong opening but quickly crashed due to negative word-of-mouth. Now, reports suggest that the film’s digital rights are also experiencing a sharp decline in valuation. According to recent sources, the makers of Toxic are receiving an offer of Rs 30 crore from an OTT platform, down from an initial pre-release proposal of Rs 150 crore. Yash-Led Toxic Gets Rs 30 Cr Offer For OTT Rights
A source close to Bollywood Hungama stated, “The Toxic team had an offer of Rs. 150 crores from a leading platform, but the demand from the team was a lot higher, north of Rs. 200 crores. Yash was confident that the film would do blockbuster business in theatres, and that in turn, would boost the post-theatrical OTT prices to Rs. 200 crore plus. But the results are exactly opposite, as the digital players are now offering an amount as low as Rs. 30 crore for the post-theatrical streaming rights for all languages.”
The makers of Toxic are reportedly considering creating a different version for OTT. This was owing to the adult nature of the storytelling. “The makers are now contemplating a completely new edit for the digital version, with the hope of fetching a bigger amount than what’s on the table. The discussions are underway to figure out a way to reduce the losses, one of which is a new cut for OTT,” the source revealed. According to Sacnilk, the film’s total India net collection has reached Rs 243.40 crore. The India gross collection is at Rs 290.50 crore.
