Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the most joyful Hindu festivals celebrated with much zeal and fervour across India. This day commemorated the victory of Lord Rama and Maa Durga as they defeated demon kings Ravan and Mahishasura respectively. The day also marks the beginning of Diwali, which is observed 20 days after Dussehra. On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, let’s have a look at Bollywood movies that show the victory of good over evil.

Here’s a list of 5 Bollywood movies that capture the essence of Dussehra

 RRR

Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR in pivotal roles. The movie shows how a dedicated Army officer Alluri Sitarama Raju and tribal community member Komaram Bheem chart out an inspirational path of freedom against the despotic British rulers. The film’s climax where Charan is decked up as Lord Ram and uses a bow and arrow to destroy the British empire and emerges victorious depicts how evil does not sustain for long.

Adipurush

The Om Raut directorial features Prabhas(Raghav), Kriti Sanon(Janaki), and Saif Ali Khan(Lankesh). It is the retelling of the Hindu epic Ramayana. With the help of modern technology and making it easy for today’s generation, the movie showcases how Raghav(Lord Ram) with his resilience triumphed over the evil intentions of Lankesh (Ravana).

Kahaani

Kahaani is set in Kolkata during the Durga Puja celebration when Vidya Bagchi(Vidya Balan) arrives in the city in quest of her missing husband. The climax of Sujoy Ghosh’s film, on Vijayadashami, draws parallels to the festival’s message of victory of good over evil, as Balan defeats her husband’s killer.

Gulaab Gang

The Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla starrer is an old-style good vs evil story, where the lead protagonist Rajjo, who runs a school for girls that also serves as a shelter for abandoned women, takes up against the system corrupt and cruel system represented by power-hungry politician Sumitra. With a dose of feminism, this vigilante venture is filled with impeccable performances.

Parched

The vibrantly alive venture filled with colour, light, music and evilness, features Radhika Apte, Surveen Chawla, and Tannishtha Chatterjee in prominent roles. While the film has a universal theme of women and their kinship, Leena Yadav’s narrative is full of quick-fix solutions. When a man meets what a character seems to think is his rightful end, the backdrop is that of the Dussehra festival and the Ravana burning, with announcements about how good overcame evil.
