Reality television has become an important part of the entertainment landscape, with shows such as Bigg Boss, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Lock Upp, Roadies and newer formats continuing to keep audiences invested. Anupamaa Actress Adrija Roy believes the popularity of reality shows comes from the very personal connection viewers develop with the people they watch. Read on to know what she exclusively told us.

Talking about reality shows and the audience connecting with it, Adrija Roy says, “People don’t just watch reality shows, they spend a part of their day with the contestants. They see their highs, lows, friendships, arguments and vulnerabilities. That kind of access creates a different relationship between the audience and a celebrity. Reality television is not going away because people will always be curious about the person behind the image.”

At the same time, reality shows are often described as a shortcut to fame or a way for celebrities to revive their careers. Adrija feels that while these platforms can certainly provide visibility, sustaining that attention is a completely different challenge. She shares, “I don’t think there is a permanent shortcut to fame. A reality show can give you a massive push overnight, but what you do with that attention afterwards is what really matters.”

She adds, “If you are entering only because you want people to notice you, that attention can disappear just as quickly. For me, the real achievement is when people remember you for your work and not just for a moment that happened on a show.”

Adrija: You Can Become A Good Actor Through Your Craft, But Stardom Is A Much More Unpredictable Journey”

Talking about the distinction between an actor and a star, Adrija Roy believes both identities demand different things from an artiste. She says, “An actor earns respect through the characters they create, while a star carries a certain pull that makes people want to watch them even before they know what the project is. Both are special, but they are built differently. You can become a good actor through your craft, but stardom is a much more unpredictable journey.”

With social media making celebrities more accessible than ever, Adrija feels the old-school mystery surrounding actors has certainly changed, but has not disappeared completely. She explains, “Earlier, audiences knew very little about an actor outside their films or shows, so there was a natural mystery. Today, people see your travel pictures, your food, your mornings and sometimes even your random thoughts. That has made celebrities more relatable, but I still believe a certain aura comes from the work you do. Social media can show people who you are, but your work is what creates the magic.”
