This year, due to the pandemic, we saw the doors of theatres and cinema halls being shut through most of the year. However, eventually, there was a ray of hope when the multiplexes were allowed to function, even if it was by maintaining 50% occupancy and several other restrictions. Once the theatres opened, a few Bollywood movies that got a theatrical release ushered in new hope for the entertainment industry. Back to back, the moviemakers announced release dates and Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom became the first Bollywood movie to have a theatrical release. Ahead of the New Year, a few highest-grossing Bollywood films made noise at the box office. Here are the highest-grossing Bollywood films at the box office, in 2021.

Sooryavanshi 

The Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer raked a collection of Rs 293.34 crore, so far. And the box office collection of Sooryavanshi is likely to rise higher with time. The Rohit Shetty-directed film was made on a budget of Rs 160 crore and has clocked a profit of Rs 52.80 crores profit. Hence, making Sooryavanshi the number 1 highest-grossing Bollywood movie of the year.

Antim: The Final Truth

The Salman Khan and Aayush Sharma starrer is winning the hearts globally. And the movie looks forward to an amazing total box office collection. Antim, produced under the banner of Salman Khan Films becomes the second-highest-grossing film and it went on to earn Rs 58.26 crore. Antim, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Mahima Makwana apart from Salman and Aayush.

Bell Bottom

The Akshay Kumar film became the first movie to release in theatres in India, post-pandemic. Bell Bottom earned Rs 2.75 crore in India on the first day of its release. The Ranjit M. Tewari movie becomes the third-highest-grossing film with a total collection of Rs 50.58 crore worldwide.

Tadap

Ahan Shetty, son of actor Suniel Shetty made his Bollywood debut with the film Tadap opposite Tara Sutaria. The film earned Rs 33.90 crore worldwide so far. The Milan Luthria-directed film has raked a total of Rs 33.90 crore worldwide, till now. With Tadap’s latest collection, it makes the movie the fourth highest-grossing film of the year.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

The Abhishek Kapoor-directed film shows Ayushmann Khurrana in a never-seen-before avatar of a gym trainer and Vaani Kapoor as a trans woman. The movie received great reviews from the critics and got an opening of Rs 3.75 crore nett on the first day, at the box office. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui that was released on December 10 has collected Rs 31.85 crore till now and is even running in cinemas still. The movie makes it to the fifth position in the highest-grossing films of 2021.

Meanwhile, 83 The Film, directed by Kabir Khan starring Ranveer Singh continues to run in theatres still. The movie has collected a total of Rs 63.21 crore nett in the six days of its release. The movie was released on December 24 and continues to screen in theatres. However, on the fifth and sixth day, there was a drop in the collections of 83 The Film.

Other movies that ruled the box office and made some noise with its release were Spider-Man: No Way Home and Pushpa: The Rise (Hindi). The movies got a smashing opening at the box office and continued to rule. Pushpa continues to screen in theatres and has remained steady in collections.
