Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay was recently fined by the Madras High Court for challenging entry tax on his imported Rolls Royce car. The court dismissed the Master actor’s petition and directed him to pay a sum of Rs 1 lakh as a fine to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Public Relief Fund within two weeks. For the unversed, Vijay had imported the luxurious car from England. Soon, Vijay started trending on social media and fans even expressed their disappointment against the single-judge bench’s remarks

The latest report in Live Law states that a bench comprising justices M Duraiswamy and R Hemalatha today has stayed the order passed by the single-judge bench. Counsel, Vijay Narayan who was representing the actor said that Vijay was ready to pay the entire tax amount but wanted the “uncharitable” remarks made by the single judge (SM Subramaniam) against the actor’s community to be removed. Justices directed Vijay to pay the balance 80% entry tax within a week of demand challan issued by the tax department.

“They are not expected to behave like reel heroes. Tax evasion is to be construed as anti-national habit, attitude and mindset and unconstitutional … These Actors are portraying themselves as champion to bring the social justice in the society. Their pictures are against corrupt activities in the society. But, they are evading tax and acting in a manner, which is not in consonance with the provisions of the Statutes,” the court had earlier said in its order.

Post this, Vijay moved to High Court regarding the scathing remarks made on him and not against paying the tax.

On the work front, Vijay will be seen in Beast and he is currently shooting for the movie in Chennai. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie also Pooja Hegde and Yogi Babu.
