After making a place for herself in the hearts of millions as Sansa Stark in the HBO epic fantasy series Game of Thrones and then as a young Jean Grey/Phoenix in the X-Men film series, Sophie Turner is now set to portray another iconic character. The actress will soon be seen stepping into the shoes once worn by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander to play the much-loved Lara Croft in Prime Video new series Tomb Raider. Sophie Turner On Playing Lara Croft In Tomb Raider Series

Talking about playing the iconic character, the ‘Game Of Thrones’ fame said, “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

For the unversed Angelina Jolie played Croft in the first two films of the franchise – Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). Alicia Vikander stepped into Angie’s shoes in 2018 for the reboot film, Tomb Raider.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge: Croft Is Coming

Talking about casting Sophie as Lara Croft, Phoebe Waller-Bridge — who serves as the show’s creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner — said, “I’m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team. About The Show

The upcoming Tomb Raider show will be directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken. The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy I Stevenson through Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television. Van Tulleken and Chad Hodge also serve as executive producers.

The upcoming series is produced by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios. Amazon MGM Studios confirmed production on the new Tomb Raider series will begin on January 19, 2026. Tomb Raider – the series is based on the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.
