Sanjay Leela Bhansali effigy burnt

Since the time the trailer of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most ambitious project ‘Bajirao Mastani‘ made it to the television screens, the film has been proved to be the newsmaker of this season. Unfortunately, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is making it to the news for all the wrong reasons. Well before its release, the film has garnered a lot of negative publicity, with a lot of people protesting against the film. As we know, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is a film which narrates the love saga between Maratha warrior Bajirao I and his second wife Mastani, many historians have objected to the release of the film.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been accused of distorting the facts from the history pertaining to Peshwa Bajirao. The descendants of the Peshwa have asked the government to ban the film from releasing as they feel that the way SLB has portrayed Peshwa Bajirao in his film is not in accordance to the actual facts about the warrior. The protest has now reached to the next level with political parties along with the Peshwa descendants burning the effigy of Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Pune. A protest was carried out by the descendants of Peshwa and Chhatrasal dynasty at Shaniwar Wada in Pune wherein protestors called out slogans against the makers of the film and burnt the effigy of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra is slated to release on December 18. The controversy started with its song ‘Pinga’ where we see a face-off between Kashibai and Mastani. Descendants claim that Kashibai and Mastani have never had a face off or rather have dressed like the way Priyanka and Deepika have done for the song. Later, in the victory song of the film we see Peshwa Bajirao aka Ranveer Singh grooving on lyrics ‘Vaat Lav Li.’ This too didn’t go down well with the protestors alleging that Peshwa Bajirao would never use such words to rejoice victory.
