Sonam Kapoor

She debuted with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. Though visually and musically an enchanting one, ‘Saawariya’ didn’t stand anywhere at the box office. Considering the fact that it had clashed with the multi-starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’, failure of ‘Saawariya’ didn’t come as a surprise to us.

However, Sonam Kapoor, who went on to do films after films, didn’t earn the name of an actress until she acted in Ram Madhavan’s ‘Neerja’. A biopic on brave stewardess Neerja Bhanot who died while saving lives of 300 odd passengers in a hijacked Pan Am flight, ‘Neerja’ unarguably remains Sonam’s best performance so far.

Recently in a conversation, the ‘Khoobsurat’ actress revealed what she took back from the film.

“‘Neerja’ has been a turning point in my life not because of the movie, but the kind of person she still is in my life. Kindness is something very rare these days, and that is something she has taught me. There is a huge place for compassion, kindness and understanding in everybody’s life. Especially in this age where there is so much to strive for and hatred… for a 22-year-old girl to show that much patience, kindness and love, is something we should all follow,” she said.

Playing an air-hostess had taken Sonam to undergo extensive lessons about how a flight functions, how one deals with emergency situations, and also various acts of hospitality. But over everything, it was emotionally a taxing and challenging experience to feel and perform in the moments of crisis, loss and danger.

Sonam recently received the Youth Icon Awards 2016 for the same.
