Rajkumar Hirani on Sanjay Dutt's biopic

Ever since the Sanjay Dutt biopic has been announced, there have been countless stories about how the project is jinxed. Despite the muscle of a powerful producer like Vidhu Vinod Chopra behind it, most respected filmmaker, Rajkumar Hirani, and a star, Ranbir Kapoor, playing the leading man, this biopic has failed to take off. Last we heard was that the script, co-written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi, has been ready for a little more than a year. Sanjay Dutt has also approved of the script, of course after getting rid of some unpleasant portions of his life described in the script.

The news about Ranbir beefing up for this role also died down a silent death after his ‘Bombay Velvet’ drowned at the box office. Apparently, Hirani is still hellbent on casting Ranbir for the role, but it looks like there are many who do not agree with his casting decision. Given Dutt’s colourful life, there will be at least three strong leading ladies playing important roles in the film, but till the time the leading man is locked, the ladies will have to wait. There are rumours that Hirani might branch out completely from Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production house, and make this biopic under his own banner.

Latest about this biopic is that there is a difference of opinion between Hirani and Chopra, and that’s over production rights of the film. Looks like both Hirani and Chopra are too sure of this film being another blockbuster like all of Hirani’s previous outings, and they are fighting for the larger part of the loot. How excited are you to watch this biopic?
