SC Cancels Kannada Actor Darshan’s Bail In Renukaswamy M*rder Case

The judgment was delivered by a bench headed by Justice JB Pardiwala, which set aside an earlier order by the Karnataka High Court. The Supreme Court has also ordered Darshan’s immediate arrest. In its verdict, the apex court observed that the High Court order remarked, “The day we come to know that the accused is provided a five-star treatment, the first step would be to suspend the jail superintendent.”

The judges noted that the High Court had gone into witness statements, a process meant for the trial court, before granting bail. “We considered everything. The grant of bail as well as cancellation. It is evident that the high court order suffers from serious infirmities; instead, it reflects a mechanical exercise, and the high court undertook examination at the pre-trial stage,” it said.

“The trial court is alone the appropriate forum. The well-founded allegations, coupled with forensic evidence, reinforce the cancellation of bail. The bail grant to the petitioner was cancelled,” the bench said.

Darshan, who is currently in Tamil Nadu, is expected to be arrested soon after Bengaluru Police submit the Supreme Court’s order to the trial court and secure a warrant, as reported by India Today.

What Is The Renukaswamy Case?

The case pertains to the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, described as a fan of Darshan’s associate and actress Pavithra Gowda. Police allege that the victim had sent obscene messages to Gowda, which led to Darshan allegedly abducting him from Chitradurga in June 2024. The victim was reportedly subjected to brutal torture over three days in a shed in Bengaluru before dying, with his body later dumped in a drain.
