Suriya’s Jai Bhim landed into controversies post its release as a section of audiences took offense in some of the scenes of the courtroom drama. Recently, the movie got embroiled in yet another controversy. On November 15, Vanniyar Sangam sent a legal notice to Suriya, his wife Jyotika, director TJ Gnanavel and Amazon Prime Video for allegedly tarnishing the reputation of the Vanniyar community. Post this, Suriya’s T Nagar residence in Chennai has got police protection as the actor received several threats over the Jai Bhim movie controversy. As per a report in India Today, five police personnel are placed with arms outside his house.

For the unversed, in the notice sent by Vanniyar Sangam it was mentioned that certain scenes in the movie had spoilt the reputation of their community. They also demanded a public apology and Rs 5 crore for causing damages. Even after giving the notice, the members of Vanniyar community started giving open threats to Suriya.

Nagapattinam district secretary of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Sithamalli Pazhani Saamy also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh to those who attacked the actor.

Jai Bhim is produced by Suriya and Jyotika’s 2D Productions. Suriya plays a lawyer who fights for the oppressed and against caste-based discrimination. It released on Amazon Prime Video on November 2.
