For the unversed, deadly stampede – which occurred on September 27 during a rally of the actor-politician in Karur, 41 people were killed while over 60 people were seriously injured. Read on to know the latest about the summon.

Thalapathy Vijay Summoned By CBI For Questioning In Karur Stampede Case

As reported by news agency PTI, Vijay has been asked to appear before the CBI on March 15 in Delhi at the agency headquarters. This news come just after reports stated that the actor had asked a 15-day extension to appear before bureau, citing political engagements.

According to the same report, the agency had also sought the presence of DMK MLA from Karur, V Senthil Balaji, before the investigation team on Monday. However, his staff had refused to accept the notice. The agency reportedly then emailed him the notice seeking his presence for questioning in the case. The CBI is still to receive any sought of response from them.

A little about the case and appearances, on March 9, Thalapathy Vijay was asked to appear before the CBI on March 10, but he sent a formal request seeking another date after 15 days. Alongside the extension, he has also made a request for the agency to question him at their Chennai office or at any other office in Tamil Nadu. Vijay was previously questioned by the CBI in January, on two separate days – 12 and 19.

During the probe, the agency gathered material that needs further questioning and clarifications from the actor. The CBI is yet to take a decision on the course of action regarding Balaji.

About The Karur Stampede

The stampede occurred on September 27 in Karur district, Tamil Nadu, during a political rally organised by TVK. The event – which took place around 400 km from Chennai, drew a massive crowd and soon turned chaotic, resulting in the death of 41 people and injuries many more. Following the incident, Vijay offered his condolences via social media. In it he said, “I express my deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for a speedy recovery for those undergoing treatment in hospital.”

In October, the apex court asked the CBI director to appoint a senior officer to take over the investigation. They also constituted a supervisory committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the agency’s investigation.
