At first glance, Raakh seems like a gripping missing persons investigation, but for director Prosit Roy, the series offered something far more compelling than a conventional crime thriller. Following the success of Paatal Lok, Roy wasn’t actively looking to return to the genre. However, it was the emotional depth and psychological complexity at the heart of Raakh that ultimately drew him in.
Prosit Roy Reveals What Made Raakh Stand Out
Speaking about what made the project stand out, Prosit Roy said, “I was not very keen to do another crime show because I was coming out of Paatal Lok and I was looking for something different. But when Raakh came to me and I heard the narration, I felt this was not just another crime series. There is something more to it. There is a lot more emotion that needs to be explored here. The people are layered, and even the policeman investigating is very different from what we have seen so far.”
Narrating how the series goes beyond the mystery itself, delving into the emotional and psychological journeys of the people caught in its orbit, Prosit said, “I think Raakh is a show about human psychology in every aspect. It is about a son fighting inner battles and accepting his identity, about two perpetrators with a certain ideology and thought process, about grief and learning to live with it, and also about two kids who fought back. So Raakh is about human psychology on many levels.”
