Pallavi Sharda Begum Jaan

There are just few days left for the release of actress Vidya Balan’s ‘Begum Jaan‘. The film sees an ensemble cast of actors like Gauahar Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun and others. Among them, actress Pallavi Sharda who pays the character of Gulabo is looking quite integral to the plot of the film. Recently, the actress, who had made her Bollywood debut with ‘Besharam’, talked about how she prepared for this role.

The role needed Pallavi to speak in fluent Punjabi. Keen to get the nuances of her role right and to ensure that her own Punjabi identity comes shining through, the actress absorbed the details of the language and mastered the dialect completely. She took the help from her father and some timely tips from actor and ‘Hawaizaada’ co-star Ayushmann Khurrana. Pallavi was not content with the Punjabi she already knew, so therefore she took to her friend Ayushmann who gave her some helpful tips. (Also Check: ‘Begum Jaan’: 5 reasons why you shouldn’t miss this Vidya Balan-starrer)

While talking about it, Pallavi says, “Since my grandmother was born in Hoshiarpur, I know the language well. In spite of living in Australia, at home we all speak in Hindi. My role in ‘Begum Jaan’ demanded extremely authentic Punjabi. I took help from my father at times while practicing the dialogues. I still felt I needed to get better at it, that’s when I picked up the phone and called Ayushmann to cross check if my Punjabi was authentic as I was translating the Hindi dialogues to Punjabi for a particularly tough scene. The Chandigarh boy- as I call him (Ayushmann)- used to converse with me in Punjabi on the sets of my last Hindi film, and this time too he made sure I got the nuances right. He is an absolute sweetheart and was great to get confidence from someone who is so proficient in the language.”

“My paternal grandmother being from the Bajwada district in Hoshiarpur and my paternal grandfather born in Amritsar but from Gurdaspur, I really wanted to pay homage to this part of my heritage & I am glad to have done that through the character of Gulabo, added the actress.”

Well, after watching the trailer, we must say that the actress has surely trained herself well and is looking impressive in her act.

Directed by Srijit Mukherji, the film is slated to release this coming Friday on April 14.
