Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Moves Delhi HC Against Misuse Of Identity And AI-Generated Content

Bollywood icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality rights and to stop the misuse of her name and image on the internet. The actress has also raised concerns about unauthorised circulation of AI-generated pornographic content falsely linked to her.

On Tuesday (September 9, 2025), Justice Tejas Karia indicated that he would consider passing an ad-interim order to caution the defendants involved in such misuse. The plea filed by Rai highlights the increasing threat of technology being misused to damage reputations and invade privacy.

Senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing the actress, argued that Aishwarya Rai’s name and likeness were being exploited online without her consent. “There can be no right in their favour to use her images, likeness or persona. A gentleman is collecting money merely by putting my name and face,” he told the court. He further stressed that some intimate photographs being circulated were completely fabricated, calling it “very unfortunate” that her identity was being used to satisfy inappropriate demands.

Aishwarya Rai was also represented in court by advocates Pravin Anand and Dhruv Anand. The high court has now listed the matter for further hearing before the joint registrar on November 7, and for the main court hearing on January 15, 2026.

This case underscores the growing concern around deepfake technology and the urgent need for stronger legal safeguards to protect celebrities and individuals from such digital exploitation.
