Is Ayushmann Khurrana making his South debut? Dream Girl 2 actor REVEALS

The current phase of Indian cinema is the most inclusive one yet. The lines between languages are blurring, and there is also a lot of talent exchange happening between industries. South cinema has emerged as a giant with films like Baahubali, KGF and RRR. Many Bollywood actors have expressed their desire to do films in the South and now Ayushmann Khurrana has also joined the list.

In a recent interview with News 18, Ayushmann raved about the South cinema. He was asked whether he has been approached for any film and if he plans to make his debut there. The actor responded to it saying, “There have been conversations but it should also excite me at the same time at the script level. If there’s something exciting and people are heavily invested into it, then I’ll go for it for sure.”

Even though he hasn’t said yes to any offer yet, Ayushmann sure does have two dream collaborators in mind. He shared, “I would love to be collaborate with Atlee or Fahadh Faasil. I know they’re poles apart (in terms of their sensibilities). But my filmography is also the same… Dream Girl and Andhadhun belong to two ends of the spectrum.”

Atlee has become a favourite for many Bollywood stars after he delivered the blockbuster Jawan with Shah Rukh Khan at the box office. The film is shattering records by the day. The director is already working with Varun Dhawan on his next, and even he and Ayushmann would make a great team.

Ayushmann on his films being remade in South

While a lot of South films have been remade in Hindi, Ayushmann is one of those few Hindi actors whose films have been adapted down there. Vicky Donor has been remade in Telugu, Andhadhun in Telugu and Malayalam while Badhaai Ho and Article 15 have been adapted in Tamil.

Discussing this feat, the actor said, “The aspiration has been to choose scripts that are clutter-breaking and subjects which are rare and new. It’s great validation coming from down south also. We’ve been remaking their content since time immemorial. So, whenever I go there, there’s a certain sense of respect for me as an endorser of fresh content. If I look back now, I’m proud of my filmography.” He revealed though that he hasn’t been approached to be a part of them. The actor also admitted to not having watched any of those remakes either.

Ayushmann has had a good run at the box office recently as he delivered a success with Dream Girl 2. The sequel also featured Ananya Panday and crossed Rs 120 crores worldwide at the box office. Up next, he has two reported projects in hand. One is the biopic of former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. The other one is a vampire film in Dinesh Vijan’s horror universe.
