The post, made on Thursday, coincided with the film crossing the Rs 1,000 crore mark at the global box office. Dhar expressed, “I am deeply grateful and indebted for the overwhelming love that Dhurandhar: The Revenge has received from audiences across the country and around the world.”

Addressing the issue of false visuals, Dhar stated, “It has come to my attention that certain individuals are circulating manipulated visuals, using artificial intelligence to distort officially released promotional material and create false narratives.”

Aditya Dhar On Sikh Community Backlash

He also highlighted a recent incident involving an AI-generated image of Ranveer Singh. The image falsely depicted his character, Hamza/Jaskirat, smoking while wearing a turban. Dhar clarified, “This is completely untrue and not part of the film or any official material. It is a malicious misrepresentation intended to provoke and mislead.”

The director emphasised, “I hold the highest respect for the Sikh community, and every portrayal in the film has been handled with sensitivity and dignity. Any attempt to suggest otherwise through doctored content is dishonest and malicious.”

Dhar urged fans and viewers to verify information solely from official sources and watch the film as intended. He warned, “Such acts will be dealt with firmly.”

R Madhavan On Dhurandhar 2 Sikh Community Controversy

The post followed hours after actor R Madhavan issued a clarification. It was with regard to the scene in which his character is shown reciting a verse from the Sikh religious text Dasam Granth while allegedly smoking a cigarette. Madhavan shared a video on Instagram, stating, “We thank you all for your love. Some people have been hurt by the scene where I recite lines from Guru Gobind Singh’s Dasam Granth and appear to be smoking. I want to assure you, this is not accurate.”

He explained, “Before delivering the line, I was instructed by Aditya Dhar to put out the cigarette, which I did. If you watch the scene carefully, you’ll see there’s no smoke in the scene, nor any trace of it.”

How Did The Controversy Begin?

The controversy arose after Gurjyot Singh Keer, president of Sikhs in Maharashtra, accused the film’s team. It included Dhar, Ranveer Singh, and Madhavan of disrespecting Gurbani and hurting Sikh sentiments. Keer criticised the depiction of Madhavan’s character smoking while reciting a sacred verse from the Dasam Granth, authored by Guru Gobind Singh, calling it disrespectful and insensitive.

He urged the Sikh community to protest peacefully and called for black flags to be shown to the filmmakers if they did not issue a sincere apology to the SGPC and the Sikh community. Additionally, a still of Ranveer Singh in a turban smoking went viral. This was later confirmed to be an AI-generated image.
