When Taapsee was asked what were the kind of dejections and rejections that she faced that really hit her, Taapsee Pannu said, “Just that you know you are not good-looking enough to be the heroine, like again not to my face, I got to know it as a reason of my rejection eventually. They’ve been kind enough not to say this in my face and the things like you are not bankable enough. You fit the rule but you’re not a name as yet that people can watch the film for. We can’t take you so you have to take someone who has a name right now. That kind of stuff was at the beginning of my career.”

Furthermore, she also spoke about how the Thappad actor was termed as an ‘off-beat’ actress in the industry. Taapsee continued, “For some weird reason, people still refer to me as the offbeat actress. I don’t understand why is my beat off. I don’t know this, for some reason people call me a parallel cinema actress. With due respect and love for all, they’re really good actresses who work in parallel cinema. I’m not as good, let me just be very honest about that they are mind-blowing for doing the kind of stuff there to do. I am working in mainstream commercial films just because I’m not doing your regular form-like stuff. It doesn’t mean my films are not mainstream because festivals are not showcasing my films, it’s only Anurag Kashyap’s films that go to festivals. No, the only films of mine that have gone to the film festival were the ones that he has made. Other than that, all of my films are making money and releasing theatres are very commercial, commercial basically means making money. I don’t know by why people still think I’m an offbeat.”

There are a lot of times I get introduced like that. All these kinds of notions take a very long ford battle to break. I need to always be the glam hot shot 24×7 whenever you see me, I should have this blow-dried hair and like wear a very sexy dress on all the time to be mainstream and commercial. I don’t know how to do that either. I don’t know, it’s come to a point where I don’t want to do it. I want to do what I genuinely understand and love doing because my audience can see this. Not just they’re so smart, the audience, they can look through one. Who’s trying too hard, who is just being him or herself. They are very smart now,” Taapsee Pannu told us.
