Raag Desh

Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Raag Desh’ has rightly appealed to its target audience and is garnering praise from all corners. Dhulia, who is a maestro at weaving stories around real life events, was praised for a thorough and historically correct narration. Apart from that, a bang-on casting made ‘Raag Desh’ even more appreciable.

This love is what a filmmaker works for. But it just gets better, when family members of the unsung heroes who inspired your films, tell you how much they loved the film! Something similar happened when daughters of Prem Sehgal (played by Mohit Marwah) and Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon (played by Amit Sadh) reached the team. “Just saw Raag Desh and loved every frame. Gave me goosebumps to see my parents’ story on the screen. You’ve played our father’s role to perfection and he would’ve been proud of you. We all love you for this. Hope we shall meet soon. Thanks. Khush Raho,” read Anisa Puri’s (daughter of Prem Sehgal) message to Mohit.

. “If you look at the journey of Prem Sahgal, it’s pretty interesting. He comes from a well-to-do family, his father was an influential man. After completing his education Sahgal joined the military. The change happened when he got caught as a war prisoner and decided to join the INA, though he had the opportunity to lead a normal life. That was the turning point of his life,” Mohit earlier said, about his character.

Amrita Mehrotra, daughter of Dhillon, as well sent a hand-written note.

“I am elated to get such a response, the film was one of my dream projects and to get an appreciation from INA fighter families is just a sign of its completeness,” an elated Dhulia stated.

There are very few movies that chart out the stories of the lesser-known freedom fighters, who laid their lives for the country. ‘Raag Desh’ is one such movie, and the makers must be glad to receive such response from the families of these soldiers.
