Bombay High Court rejects petition for ban on Pakistani artists

The Bombay High Court heard a petition filed by a cineworker, which sought to ban the Pakistani artists from working in India. Justice Sunil B Shukre and Justice Firdosh P Pooniwalla observed that the petition had lacked merit, and observed that it was a retrograde step to promote cultural harmony and unity. As per a report in News18, the court said in its ruling that “activities promoting peace, harmony, and tranquillity, including arts, music, sports, culture, and dance, transcend national boundaries and contribute to unity and harmony within and between nations.”

It was in 2016 after the URI attack when the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) created a resolution of not working with Pakistani artists. In the 87th Annual General Meeting, the president of IMPPA had said that the members had come to a conclusion that no Pakistani artist will be hired by any producer due to the URI attack. This decision had earned a mixed reaction from the netizens as well as the Pakistani celebrities. Actor Fawad Khan had also said that he missed Bollywood.

However, now that the Pakistani artists can work in India, the audience can expect Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Saba Qamar and many more artists to spread their charm in the industry once again and sway their fans and followers with their talent.
