Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Gully Boy’ has released today and it is getting overwhelming responses from all the quarters. The movie was also recently screened at the Berlin Film Festival. When the trailer released, a few criticized the makers calling it a copy of Eminem’s ‘8 Mile’. Now director Zoya Akhtar has responded to the criticisms.

During her interaction with ZoomTV.com, Zoya spoke at length about this. She said, “I get it (the comparison). I totally understand it, because that’s the reference point and that’s what they’ve seen so, that’s the immediate reference point and people here just love to do that. The minute ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ trailer came out people were like it’s ‘The Hangover’. And there’s nothing you could do. Initially, like that was my second film and I was really upset. And I was like, “It’s not Hangover!!!”. But, now I am just like, “You know what, watch the movie and you’ll know what it is”. And the minute the film (ZNMD) came out nobody spoke about it.”

She further said that she is now waiting for that to happen with ‘Gully Boy’. “I get it, I understand it. Because it is, it is a rapper story. It is coming from a person that’s coming from a disenfranchised space and he is using this as an expression and it’s got rap battle. So, ya I understand them saying ‘8 Mile’. But, it’s not ‘8 Mile’, added the filmmaker.
