Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor has confirmed that the long-awaited biopic on Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra has officially been shelved after years of development, citing difficulties in adapting the story into a feature film. The biopic, which has been in the news for several years, was set to star Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor and was supposed to be co-produced by his father, Anil Kapoor.

Throughout the years, speculation regarding delays and potential cancellations arose multiple times. In a prior interview, Harsh had conveyed his dedication to the film, stating, “I want the Abhinav Bindra biopic to be a theatrical. We are trying to develop a narrative that is true to who Abhinav is.”
However, it is now confirmed that the project is no longer in development. A source informed Bombay Times, “The script lacked the drama and energy required for it to translate into a feature film. At best, it would work as a docudrama. Everyone tried to make it work, but after much deliberation, it was concluded that it won’t work.”
When contacted by BT, Harsh also confirmed the news, “Yes, the Bindra biopic has been shelved.” The actor, who was last seen in the critically acclaimed OTT film Thar, is now focusing on several other intriguing projects that are in the pipeline.
Harsh Varrdhan Projects
Harsh Varrdhan made his debut in Mirzya (2016). It was a romantic drama that received mixed reactions. He was also seen in Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018), an action-oriented film that gained critical acclaim for its unique approach. Kapoor appeared in Thar (2022), a western film that was praised for its cinematography and performances. In AK vs AK (2020), the actor had a cameo role in a film directed by his father, Anil Kapoor. Kapoor was a part of Ray (2021), an anthology series on Netflix based on short stories by Satyajit Ray.
