At the India Today Conclave, during a session, Karan Johar opened up about decriminalisation of section 377 and the victory of love over hatred.

Speaking at the event, Karan said, “I woke up and cried that day. I cried for the community. I cried that there was freedom. It was a historic moment. I was just glad that it was accepted legally. That particular day, ironically, was my father’s birthday. I felt the freedom that day.

Speaking about acceptance, KJo said,”There’s so much information on sexuality, through literature and films. That change will not be sudden and gradual. Those families that go through it, will take time to process it. I hope the next step is that gay marriages will be legalised. That’s what I aspire for – as an Indian and as a human.

I think it will be accepted over a period of time. And cinema or literature or reportage on it will facilitate that. Yes, there will be opposition. But it will happen. See, today there are already films (referring to ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’) being made on this subject and the audience is accepting it, too. So it will happen gradually,” he added further.
