Eighteen years ago, Lara Dutta went on to make the country proud by bagging the Miss Universe 2000 title. The cherry on the cake the same year was that Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza too brought in the Miss World and the Miss Asia Titles home respectively. But not many know that its been 18 long years since, Lara Dutta’s this Miss Universe record lies unbroken.

As per an India Today report, Lara Dutta was the second Indian to have won the Miss Universe title after Sushmita Sen’s 1994 win. Since then no Indian has been able to bag the coveted title. Lara also holds the title of Miss Intercontinental 1997.

The report further adds that Lara scored the highest marks in the history of beauty pageant competitions that year. She had grabbed a score of 9.99 from almost all of the judges. She had achieved the highest score in the swimsuit round. Her finale question score was also the highest individual score in any category in the history of the Miss Universe contest.

And it’s been 18 years since her win, still, this record stays intact. None of the future winners have been able to break this record.

Post her win, Lara Dutta marked her Bollywood debut alongside Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra in 2003 musical success ‘Andaaz’. She left her mark in movies such as ‘Masti’, ‘Zinda’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Kaal’, ‘Housefull’, ‘Don 2’, among others. Lara Dutta was last seen in ‘Welcome To New York’.
