#MeToo: Payal Ghosh files an FIR against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap

Actress Payal Ghosh recently accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual misconduct. Payal’s allegations certainly created a furore in the industry with a section of the celebs coming out in support of the filmmaker and some of them extending support to the actress.

Payal finally filed an FIR against the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director in Mumbai’s Versova Police station.

Last night, after filing the complaint, Payal’s lawyer Nitin Satpute tweeted, “Finally FIR has been lodged against Accused for the offence Rape, Wrongful Restrain, Wrongful Confinement and outraging modesty of woman U/S 376(1), 354, 341, 342 of IPC(sic)”

Payal claimed that the filmmaker had forced himself on her back in 2014. The ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi’ actress also said that so far she didn’t raise her voice fearing the repercussions.

However, Anurag has categorically denied all the allegations and called them ‘malicious and dishonest’. Reacting to Payal’s allegations, Anurag’s lawyer in a state said, “My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that a social movement as important as the #metoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination.”

Actresses like Kangana Ranaut and Roopa Ganguly have come out in support of Payal, whereas, actresses like Taapsee Pannu, Richa Chadha, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi has lent their support to the filmmaker.
