Residents of Kamathipura had filed a plea in the Bombay High Court seeking the removal of references to the location in the Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. Gangubai Kathiawadi is all set to release on February 25 and is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But as per reports, the Bombay High Court has dismissed all petitions against the movie.

Reportedly three petitions were filed against the movie ahead of the release and they have all been dismissed. The petitions were about the use of the words Kathiawad, Kamathipura, and China in Gangubai Kathiawadi.

For the unversed Maharashtra MLA Amin Patel along with the resident of the Kamathipura area had filed a plea in BHC requesting to remove the name of the location in the movie. Kathiawadi is also used as a last name for many people in Saurashtra, Gujarat. “This film has shamed people of the entire vicinity. The women couldn’t write their address as Kamathipura,” Advocate Dhruti Kaptali said in the court.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi has got a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Four changes were made in the original edit of the movie. An abusive word in the movie was replaced with ‘madarjaat’.

Next, a 43-second long dialogue was removed. Visuals of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru embedding a rose on Gangubai’s shoulder were modified as well, as per a report by Bollywood Hungama. Disclaimers in both English and Hindi have been put in the movie with an increase of duration in both slides. Lastly, a 17-second-long dialogue and visuals were chopped.
