Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge is not only dominating the box office across India but also creating a buzz on social media and within industry circles. While the film’s popularity continues to grow, it has also become a target of controversy, with some audiences accusing it of being a “propaganda” tool. However, Piyush Mishra has come forward to counter these claims on Dhurandhar 2, dismissing the criticism and calling the film “pure cinema.”
Piyush Mishra Calls Dhurandhar 2 Pure Cinema Amid Propaganda Labels
On March 28, Piyush Mishra attended the Delhi International Film Festival, where he spoke about Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise. During the discussion, he defended the film amid rising criticism, with some viewers branding it as “propaganda.”
“There’s a fine line between propaganda and cinema. Take Dhurandhar, for example. I loved that film. It has an incredible screenplay,” Mishra stated in Hindi. He added, “That’s what we call cinema. So I liked Dhurandhar very much. You can’t say it was a propaganda film. It’s simply a film.”
Dhurandhar 2 Being Labelled ‘Propaganda’ Film
Even as Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues to garner mostly positive reviews, it has not been immune to controversy. Its political undertones have drawn criticism from certain quarters, with political commentator Dhruv Rathee criticising the sequel. He described it as “brain rot,” and argued that, unlike the first installment, the follow-up “is not even well-made propaganda anymore.”
While the film remains a box office hit, it has sparked debate about whether the Dhurandhar franchise leans too heavily into a “propaganda” narrative. Recently, actor Anupam Kher also addressed this controversy, criticising those who branded the film as propaganda and urging them to be ashamed of themselves.
