The hearing is part of the ongoing investigation into the song, which has sparked widespread criticism since its release. The NCW had previously taken suo motu cognisance of the matter, citing concerns over sexually suggestive content and its potential impact on public decency and minors.

Nora Fatehi was unable to attend a prior scheduled hearing as she was abroad and had requested a new date to present her perspective. She is now set to appear at 11:30 A.M. on May 7, marking a significant step in the Commission’s efforts to resolve the issue.

Earlier, actor Sanjay Dutt, who also featured in the song, appeared before the NCW, where he issued a written apology and expressed regret for any unintentional harm caused. As part of corrective actions, he committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children and assured the Commission that future projects under his association would undergo stricter legal scrutiny to ensure respectful portrayals of women and children.

About The Sarke Chunar Controversy

The controversy gained momentum shortly after the song’s release, with critics and social media users criticising its lyrics and choreography as inappropriate. Singer Armaan Malik described the writing as a “new low,” and legal complaints were filed seeking a ban on the track. In response to mounting pressure, the makers reportedly removed the song from YouTube.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar emphasised that the dignity of women must be upheld. She added that it cannot be compromised under the guise of creativity. In previous hearings, the Commission questioned those involved about their intent, accountability, and awareness. They urged them to prevent similar lapses in the future.

The controversy is linked to the film KD: The Devil, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt. It continues to attract attention as authorities examine the responsibilities of artists and creators in producing socially responsible content.
