Shah Rukh Khan was offered Ranveer Singh’s role in Padmavat, here’s why he turned it down

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer Padmavat was a big success. Both actors received appreciation as they nailed their role flawlessly. While Ranveer Singh’s roles as Alauddin Khilji received heaps of praises, did you know that the actor was not the first choice for it? You will have your jaw dropped once you know who was the first actor chosen for Khilji’s role.

It was none other than Shah Rukh Khan who was the first choice for Alauddin Khilji in Padmavat later it was played Ranveer Singh , but the actor rejected the same.

Shah Rukh Khan reveals why he rejected Khilji’s role

You will be surprised to know that it was none other than Shah Rukh Khan who was roped in for the character. Padmavat director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice was Shah Rukh Khan and not Ranveer Singh, but the actor rejected the offer.

In an old interview with Film Companion, the actor said, “There were a couple of films that did very well at the box office and I was in them and then I realized I was playing a real-life character who may not be the person and i told the director that there is no way I’ll not make him likable. And I just feel that person should not be liked, it’s not something I should sell to the people. It’s okay being him, the film being about him but I shouldn’t glorify it. So i left the film last minute, it was a clear-cut decision in my head.”

He added further, “I know I’ll make him look attractive, I am not showing off but the way it was written, bad guys can be very attractive and I am honestly saying this, I can make bad guys very attractive because I think the extremely good guy and extremely bad guy both have something in common that is obsessiveness. So I have let go of the role.” 

Speaking of Padmavat, the film was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor played the leading characters enhancing the film’s charm even further. The film turned out be a huge success as it collected Rs.585 crores worldwide.

On the other hand, our very own Pathaan aka Shah Rukh Khan is all set to come up in Atlee-directed Jawan. Starring himself along with Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, Deepika Padukone adds cherry on top with her cameo. The film will hit theatres this year on 7 September. Apart from this, the actor is also coming up with Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki sharing the screen with Boman Irani and Taapsee Pannu.
