Sonam Wangchuk Hunger Strike: Soni Razdan Urges Activist To End His Indefinite Fast; Says, “Please Do Not Leave Us”

On June 28, in solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike. Via the strike, Sonam is demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged paper leaks, cancellations, and systemic issues surrounding government exams. As Wangchuk’s fast marks its 18th day, actress Soni Razdan has taken to social media and urged the activist to end it.

Soni Razdan Urges Sonam Wangchuk To End His Hunger Strike

As concern continue to mount over Sonam Wangchuk’s declining health as a result of his indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Soni Razdan has joined the growing list of public figures appealing to him to end his fast. Taking to Instagram, the ‘Songs of Paradise’ actress penned an emotional appeal captioned, “We need you. Don’t leave us”

Her post read, “Dear Sonam Wangchuk, for your health we all do pray… Please do not leave us in this way... Please live to fight another day… Please stay. Please end your fast today.”

Soni Razdan is the latest Bollywood personality to speak in support of Sonam Wangchuk. Prior to Razdan, actors such as Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, writer Arundhati Roy, economist Jayati Ghosh, and several other prominent personalities, have urged Sonam Wangchuk to call off his indefinite hunger strike. 3 Idiots fame Omi Vaidya also took to social media and highlighted the issue saying, “I don’t want Phunsukh Wangdu to die.”

Veteran actress Zeenat Aman also took to social media and spoke about the issue. In her post, she requested the Indian government to open dialogue with Sonam as the matter ‘concerns the future of all India.’

Sonam Wangchuk is on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan following the NEET-UG paper leak. This ignited a social media-driven political movement under the banner of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Tuesday marked the 25th day since the organisation launched its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Wangchuk and the Abhijeet Dipke-led CJP have garnered support from leaders across the political spectrum as the protest in Delhi continues. Several political figures have visited the protest site recently and expressed solidarity with the movement.
