At the trailer launch of the much-anticipated O’Romeo yesterday, director Vishal Bhardwaj set aside the spotlight on the film to honour the man he believes made it possible producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Scroll below to read what he had to say.
Vishal Bhardwaj Showers Lover On Sajid Nadiadwala For His Support In Making O’Romeo
Praising Sajid Nadiadwala, Vishal Bhardwaj said, “There was one man who truly belonged here, because without him, it would have been impossible for this film to be started, forget about completing it. And he is the last of his kind, of this breed of producers in this industry.” He further added, “The other thing is that they stopped making people like him anymore. He’s truly one of our legends.”
During the same event, Sajid Nadiadwala also opened up about why he decided to back the Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri starrer. He said, “I have been making films for many years, and honestly, we never really know. I was talking to my journalist friends, and they said, ‘How did you come back to a romantic film? That’s not your kind of cinema.’ I told them, ‘I made Highway, that was 10 years ago. I made Chhichhore, which won a National Award, that was 5 years ago.’”
The producer further added, “What actually happens is that once you start making a film, you fall in love with the story. But getting an audience, that part is something you can never fully control. Every Friday for the last 40 years, we have been praying: ‘This Friday should be magical.’ Now even my son is joining me. For me, it feels like I’ll have to keep praying every Friday for the next 40 years too.”
He further added, “We do everything we can work on the script, performances, readings, choose the best locations, and promote the film as much as possible. But in the end, whether the film becomes a hit or not, that’s in God’s hands. And I think that’s what cinema is all about.”
