sir

“I had been in a different game, I was traveling on a speedy train ride, had dreams, plans, aspirations, goals, was fully engaged in them. And suddenly someone taps on my shoulder and I turn to see. It’s the TC: “Your destination is about to come. Please get down.” “No, no. My destination hasn’t come.” “No this is it. This is how it is sometimes.” The suddenness made me realize how you are just a cork floating in the ocean with UNPREDICTABLE currents! And you are desperately trying to control it. The only thing certain was the uncertainty. All I could do was to realize my strength and play my game better. This realization made me submit, surrender and trust, irrespective of the outcome.”- Irrfan Khan.( As told to Mumbai Mirror)

Dear Irrfan Sir

There are very few people who touch your life profoundly in ways you don’t even know or can’t even imagine about. And for a cinephile like me, artists especially actors like you are one of those few people. I won’t claim that I am your biggest fan or have seen all of your movies because honestly, I haven’t; but I do claim that I look up to you for your amazing body of work and the nuance with which you play all of your characters.

A few days back we all read your heart-wrenching note on your struggle with battling cancer. That note left us teary-eyed but also brought a smile on our face. Because that note was so beautiful, sad and yet so poignant that it broke my heart but at the same time forced me to never underestimate the healing power of Hope, Love and Faith. And it didn’t come as a surprise that it was penned by you because we all know what a sensitive and observant performer/person you are. After reading it, I am trying to decipher this puzzle called LIFE from your perspective. Trust me, sir, I can’t even imagine what you and your family must be going through right now.

Sir firstly thank you for sharing with us the feelings you have been going through over the past few months( it really means a lot) and secondly thank you for inspiring and giving hope to all the people out there who are fighting their own battles with similar rare diseases.

Sometimes it really amazes me that how at one moment of our life, we feel we have everything, we are complacent and even thankful for being blessed with all the luxuries of life and then out of the blue, suddenly we face a situation where it feels like we have been jolted from our deep slumber and forced to face the reality how much ever bitter it might be. I guess this is how life is meant to be.

Previously while sharing about your illness, you had quoted Margaret Mitchell’s lines, “Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect”, but Sir, I have a feeling that very soon life will do shower upon you all the blessings, prayers and love of your fans and followers not just from your home country but from all over the globe. For you are the man who has been touching people’s lives with your gifted craft all over the world.

You are and will always be my favorite Khan. We all are praying for your speedy recovery. Stay strong, stay positive. And as Rumi said, “What hurts you, blesses you. Let darkness be your candle.”

Sir we all have this unshakable belief that you will come out of this whole episode like The Warrior that you are and always have been.

Irrfan sir, how I wish that someday you pen down the journey of your-ever-so-inspiring life (though you claim it to be boring but for people like me your boring is our interesting) and sir whenever you would do that, I would be the first person to buy your book. I have this long cherished dream of watching you play Sahir Ludhianvi and Saadat Hasan Manto on the silver screen. So stay strong, fight hard and come back soon as all your fans and followers are eagerly looking forward to your return.

At this point in your life, all I can offer you is my earnest prayers for your speedy recovery. Bhagwan kare meri umar aapko lag jaye…

Godspeed and lots of love

A cinephile
