EXCLUSIVE: Kanika Maheshwari Opens Up About Wearing A Burkha In Seher Hone Ko Hai; Says, “My Respect for Muslim Women Has Increased, Hats Off To Them”

Television actress Kanika Maheshwari, who is currently winning hearts as Husna Aara in Seher Hone ko hai, recently opened up about her experience of wearing a burkha for one of the show’s sequences. While portraying the character, Kanika admitted that the experience gave her a completely new perspective and a deeper appreciation for Muslim women who wear the burkha as a part of their daily lives.

Kanika Maheshwari Reveals Her Respect For Muslim Women Increased After Doing A Burkha Scene In Seher Hone Ko Hai

Talking about doing the burkha scene in Seher Hone Ko Hai, Kanika Maheshwari said, “Honestly, I was wearing the burkha only for a scene, and after some time I started feeling exhausted. As a Hindu we don’t get to know till the time we wear it. It was warm, it required patience, and it wasn’t something I was used to. That’s when I genuinely thought to myself, hats off to all the Muslim women who wear it every single day with such grace and dignity.”

She continued, “Even in our Hindu tradition, when we wear a ghunghat during rituals or ceremonies, we start feeling uncomfortable after some time. So when I experienced wearing a burkha, I could truly understand that it takes a lot of strength. It made me respect the women who carry it so effortlessly while managing their everyday responsibilities.”

She added, “As actors, we often get the opportunity to step into different cultures and traditions through our characters. These experiences teach us empathy and make us appreciate lifestyles that may be different from our own. This role has definitely made me more understanding and respectful. It reminded me that every tradition deserves to be respected.”

Kanika Maheshwari further said, “Sometimes we don’t realize how much discipline and patience another person’s lifestyle requires until we experience even a small part of it ourselves. Wearing the burkha, even for a short duration, made me appreciate the resilience of Muslim women even more.”

She concludes, “Every culture has its own beauty, traditions, and values. I believe we should always respect each other’s choices and customs.
